In 1830, farmhands and their families faced starvation. Under the banner of the legendary Captain Swing they rose up to challenge landowners, church and government, demanding a living wage. The establishment response was brutal, resulting in mass transportation and, in some cases, execution. Using music, poetry and song !nVerse and Georgia Hilton recount these momentous events and their impact on villages throughout Hampshire. Performance will include ‘cello, piano, Northumbrian small pipes, clarinet, flute, spoken word and cameo appearances from William Cobbett, Wellington and Captain Swing himself.
