Tuesday 11th July, 13:00
A recital by soprano, Alice Wratten
Programme
Three song cycles by women
- A Suite O’Bairnsangs – Thea Musgrave
- Bird Songs – Liza Lehmann
- Sechs Lieder – Clara Schumann
Accompanied by Alex Eadon.
Raised and schooled in Winchester, Alice studied singing privately with Ashley Stafford before post-graduate courses at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and The Kodaly Institute (Kecskemet, Hungary). Choral singing has always been her passion – and formative years in Winchester Young Voices, Hampshire County Youth Choir and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain were followed by professional ensembles Ex Cathedra and Corra Sound. She also now directs choirs herself and has a busy teaching practice. Raising a young family (and single parenthood) put Alice’s solo career on hold for several years but this year has seen a return to the concert stage, including a performance of Haydn’s Creation in Winchester. Previous solo engagements include Handel Messiah, Mozart Requiem, Haydn Paukenmesse, Rutter Mass of the Children, Jenkins The Armed Man, Rutter Requiem, and recitals and solo appearances in the UK, France, Italy and Malta.
Please arrive at the Abbey in time to be seated 10 minutes before the start time.
Booking is not required and entry is free.
There will be a retiring collection to cover the cost of putting on the recitals and to support the choirs of the Abbey.
