Saturday 1st – Sunday 16th July
Transition Town Romsey (TTR) are working with at least 6 local community groups (Dementia Group, Romsey Young Carers, Gateway Club, MENCAP Supported Living, Romsey Family Support Group) members of which have differing ages and abilities – providing them with workshops to learn how to weave and how to decorate one or more bicycle wheels.
There are 16 old bicycle wheels of varying shapes and sizes – once completed they will form an art installation to promote cycling as a low-carbon mode of transport; both as a means to get to/from the railway station, but also by taking a bike on the train.
They will be visible from the slope up to the back of the Railway Station (by kind permission of Three Rivers Partnership). This is where TTR’s community allotment is, and so some wheels will also be incorporated into the vegetable beds to attract new growers for the allotment.
There will be display boards and a leaflet to explain the installation and promote groups who have taken part.
Free event; no tickets required
Outdoor viewing at any time, along the sloped entrance to Platform 1 of Romsey Railway station
For further details of the project and to find out which community groups have taken part please visit the Transition Town Romsey website, or contact them via email at transitiontownromseyweebly@gmail.com
