A taster of what is to come in July in the Romsey Festival will be provided through the next few months with a series of early events promoting the Festival. Music, poetry and environmental issues all feature.
Between 10.30am and 3pm on Saturday 11th March the Romsey Methodist Church will host an eco-Fair entitled “Living Carefully In Our World”. There will be opportunities to visit stands sharing tips and information which will help to care for our world, supporting daily living and key decisions, and raising awareness of wider issues and concerns. Entrance is free, though donations are invited.
Just a few weeks later the Turner Sims Concert Hall at Southampton University will host a concert featuring some or Romsey’s most talented musicians, with the Romsey Youth Concert Band, the Romsey Youth Choir, and the Romsey Abbey Choir. Titled “Sonorou10s Voices and Winds”, the concert is at 4pm on Sunday 2nd April. Tickets (£7 adults, £4.50 children under 16 and senior citizens) can be obtained from the Turner Sims box office (0233 8059 5151).
An entirely different event on Sunday 14th May sees the TeaPoet Collective hosting a fun afternoon of poems and stories in the Crosfield Hall, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Featuring local performance poets and a guest musician, there are also open spots for readers. This is a special event in an accessible venue for the benefit of disabled performance artists. Tickets are £5, on the door.
The series of early Festival events culminates with two concerts in Romsey Abbey. Per Piacere Chamber Orchestra join the Romsey Choral Society on Saturday 20th May for a concert including music by Beethoven and Haydn. This is followed on Saturday 10th June by the Southampton Concert Orchestra playing music by Mahler, Vaughan-Williams and Shostakovich. Both concerts start at 7.30pm and tickets are available from Romsey TIC.
This varied and eclectic series of events provides an early insight into the comprehensive and varied programme which will be on offer from 1st to 16th July during the Romsey Festival. Full details of all the events leading up to and during the Festival are available at www.romseyfestival.org.
